WELDON HERSH – THE BOSS
NOV. 30, 1938 – JAN. 6, 2026 – THE AGE OF 87
One of Wyoming’s own passed away today.
No Services will be held.
Weldon was born on Nov. 30th, 1938 in Wheatland, WY to William Hersh and Ellen (Herrick) Hersh. He spent his childhood in Chugwater, WY and Casper, WY. Weldon spent time in Kalispell Montana helping on the family dairy farm and was living on a dairy farm in Big Fork during the blizzard of 1949. Later, he moved to Colorado to help on the family dairy farm in Castle Rock. The family returned to Casper for a time, he graduated from NCHS then attended Casper Collage for a brief time before moving to Douglas, WY where he worked on the 2 ranches his mother and stepdad ran. He also worked the stockyards in Greeley, CO. In 1966, he chose to leave and experience the city life. Weldon moved to Illinois, residing in Lake Zurich and Addison, followed by Vernon Hills for 18 years. After his time in Illinois, he returned to Casper to be closer to his sisters and family.
Weldon liked managing/bossing people… and his sisters… Over the years, Weldon managed a McDonald’s, Best Buy, and Howard Johnson’s. He was also a bar owner for years, largely serving the English population in the area. One accomplishment he took the greatest pride in was being given the “World’s Greatest Boss” Award by his employees at one point.
In his younger days, he loved to learn and travel. Every September, he would load up and go on vacation. Weldon also enjoyed playing tour guide and hosting people who came to visit him. He would often take troubled children from difficult homes sightseeing around Illinois. He was a lover of dogs, an admirer of fine women, a Coors tasting team member for years.
In his later years, he gave time, knowledge, or resources to others. He loved to cook and entertain family and friends. His sisters found him to be cantankerous but he could also be helpful by cooking and fixing things around their homes. His grandparents were credited with teaching him proper etiquette, social expectations, and culture. Weldon never seemed happier than when he was with family at Thanksgiving dinner. He gave a small investment in his Best Buy stock to each of his great nieces and nephews, hoping to show them how later in life it would give you something more than you started with. He gave to the Salvation Army and many other projects over the years. During retirement he also found a love for construction, remodeling, and woodwork and enjoyed talking about his projects.
Ultimately, we are so thankful that Weldon gave his life to Jesus before he left this earth.
Thank you, Pastor Dale Fitzsimmons for your friendship and ministry to Weldon in the hospital at the end, as well as to the family at this difficult time. Thank you also to the extra caring staff members of the Life Care Center.
Weldon is survived by his sister Jennie James of Casper, two nephews, two nieces, ten great nieces and nephews, his friends and kind neighbors.
