Zachary Deric Beyer, known to those who loved him as Zack, Z, Z1, or Aba passed away on September 4, 2026, at the age of 35. He grew up in Evansville, Wisconsin, where he was particularly interested in art and computers. In 2012, he moved to the Pacific Northwest to join his Uncle Eric's educational software startup, which later became Boom Learning, and went on to become a sought-after iOS developer.
Zack married Angela Mishler in 2016, and together they built a home in the Seattle suburbs filled with love and laughter for their two sons, David and Michael. In 2022, the family moved to Casper, Wyoming.
Zack was diagnosed with medulloblastoma in August 2022. Brain surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy left him with significant physical challenges. Though he was unable to continue working, he remained a developer until the end — publishing open-source code and championing software accessibility, a cause made personal by his own experience. He adopted a philosophy of making his projects freely available to the world under the MIT open-source license. codepen.io/Zachary-Beyer
Before his illness, he enjoyed hiking, biking, cooking, and fine dining. He joked that having cancer was an effective weight-loss program, but he didn’t recommend it. He appreciated a wide variety of musical styles and insisted until his dying day that Bon Jovi IS NOT Boomer music.
Zack was well known as a dedicated father, pun and dad-joke enthusiast, and person of strong faith. He will be remembered for his warmth, his hospitality, his resilience, and the love he shared for his family and friends.
Memorial donations for his children may be made through GoFundMe.
