Mary G. Schlager passed away peacefully in her sleep, of natural causes, in the early morning hours of Monday, May 28th 2018 at her home. Mary was born May 30, 1939 at St. Mary's Hospital, in Duluth, Minnesota to Frank P. and Hazel C. (Finke) Wood.
Mary relocated to the Casper area, with her family in 1948, ultimately living at the “FL” ranch west of Casper on Poison Spider Road. The following winter, Mary, her mother and four siblings were rescued by the Wyoming National Guard during the blizzard of ’49 when they were down to only one can of beans for the family.
Mary attended St. Anthony School and later graduated from Natrona County High School in 1957. Following her graduation she married her high school sweetheart, Walter “Neal” Schlager who was serving in the US Navy, and they moved to Foley, AL. They were later transferred to Norfolk, VA and returned to Casper in 1959 and farmed west of town on the Kendrick Project until 1973.
In 1972, Mary and Neal purchased Noland Feed in Casper and operated it with their family until her retirement in 2004. She retired to hobby farm, golf and travel. Mary loved to cook for family, sew, read, travel and volunteer at St. Anthony’s.
Mary was preceded in death by one son - Daniel, Both Parents, two brothers and their wives Joseph and Evelyn Wood, and Thomas and Patricia Wood.
Mary is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Neal, 3 Children -Tim (Kerre), Kathy (Greg), Steve (Michele), 7 Grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as two brothers Mike (Peggy) and Jack (Virginia).
Rosary will be held Friday, June 1st at 6:00 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, 604 S. Center Street in Casper, Wyoming.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church. Graveside Services and a reception to follow.
