We celebrate Donald Eugene Morris's journey home to once again reunite with the love of his life just in time for Valentine's Day.
Don was born December 3rd, 1927, the second of four children; two sisters, Frances Jean (Orin) Morris and Bonnie Blumer, and a brother Charles Morris, all born to Francy and Beatrice Morris, in Centerville, Iowa. He grew up on a dairy farm near Molton, Iowa where he graduated high school. After high school, he joined the Air Force and spread his wings, stationed in the Phillipines. When he was discharged, he returned to the states and headed west to visit his Aunt and Uncle in Casper, Wyoming. He arrived here during the "Blizzard of '49." His Aunt told him about a particular client that she thought he might be interested in. That's when he met the love of his life, Carolyn Jeanette Henry and they were wed on December 30th, 1949. They had two children, Teresa (Tammy) Morris Cross and Vincent Morris.
Don worked as a bookkeeper/accountant at Wyoming Automotive, where they met their life-long best friends Mary Kay and Vernon (Pat) Patterson. Don moved on with his career to Western Equipment Company and then B.F. Walker where he was Office Manager. Don was also instrumental in the start up of Hilltop National Bank, with Hardy Ratcliff.
In 1976 they moved to South Lake Tahoe, California. There he worked for Heavenly Valley Ski Resort and Tahoe Queen Cruises in their accounting departments. Don and Carolyn moved to Santa Rosa, California around 1996 to care for her Aunt. He worked at McLea's Tire and Automotive in Santa Rosa before retiring.
After losing the love of his life in 2008, he returned to Casper to live with his daughter Tammy and her husband Dave. This was during a snowstorm in December 2009 in 21 below zero weather. He announced that he would rather die in a snowdrift in Wyoming than stay in California! He spent the rest of his days taking adventures around the state with Tammy and Dave, seeing Mt. Rushmore for the first time at 85, and two skydives at age 84 and 86. He wanted to jump again at 90. He loved his Wyoming Cowboy Football and Basketball.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, his mother and father, sisters and brother, aunts, uncles and best friends.
He is survived by his dearly loved kitty (Lacey J), daughter Tammy (Dave) Cross, son Vincent Morris, four grandchildren Tina (Tom) Burkett, Cynthia (Travis) Sides, Sydney and Cody Morris. Five great-grandchildren; Colton, Caitlyn, and Cameron Burkett, and Noah and Owen Sides, nephews Don and Richard Boucher and Randy Blumer.
There will be a private family service later in the summer on Casper Mountain.
