Shawn Ray Cox, 49, of Buffalo, Wyoming passed away July 17, 2019 in Casper, Wyoming. Shawn was born August 23, 1969 in Kremmling, Colorado to parents, Carol and Will Cox. Shawn was raised and attended school in Buffalo, and graduated Buffalo High School with the Class of 1987. He later attended the University of Wyoming, Laramie County Community College and Adam State in Colorado. He was a proud member of Sigma Chi, where he honed his culinary skills on his unsuspecting fraternity brothers.
Sometimes he was lovingly known as “The Giggle Box Cowboy”, “Shawny Bonnie”, Bubble Butt” and “Bun” by his friends, fellow lifeguards, debate team members, swim team, fraternity brothers and family.
Blessed with a brilliant mind, Shawn excelled in all things technical and mechanical, which led him to become an accomplished and sought- after IT specialist. He worked for the Department of Defense, Department of Transportation, IBM His current work family at DigeTeks declares a more fun work environment when Shawn was in the office. Shawn also worked in construction and was a fourth- generation member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. He and his dad had the good fortune to work together to build his parents’ home in Buffalo. However, his favorite job was a stay at home nanny for his adopted nieces and often needed advice from his Aunt Anita on the skills of wrangling small children.
Shawn grew up loving hunting, fishing and camping. He also loved competitive swimming. His quick wit and gifted debate skills earned him a qualification for the National Debate Team. He enjoyed gaming and anything computer related. His bubbly personality usually made him the group entertainer because of his ability to adapt, be it in a family and friend crowd of 3 or a crowd of 3,000. Shawn had exemplary culinary skills and could often be found in the kitchen preparing delicious meals for family and friends. While his meals were always a crowd pleaser, his cleanup skills were not as highly regarded. He was also a self-proclaimed coffee snob as-long-as it was expensive, as ordered and fast!
Shawn was a beloved son to his parents of Buffalo, Will and Carol Cox, his brother Brad Cox of Corinth Texas, sister-in-law, Courtney Cox and his niece Abigail and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who will forever love and miss him.
Proceeding him in passing were his maternal grandparents, Shirley Louise Steinfeldt Clayton, Benner and Robert R. Benner of Colorado, and his Uncle James Clayton of Mountain Home, Arkansas; His paternal grandparents, Wallace N. Cox and Patricia (Patsy) Marshall Cox both from Summit County Colorado and two cousins, Anthony O’Mailia of Craig Colorado and Bobby Dean Madden of Grand Junction, Colorado.
In his usual spirit of giving, Shawn bestowed the gift of organ donation so that others may be blessed with the gift of life. The family extends their sincere thanks and appreciation to the nurses, doctors and ICU staff and emergency care providers of the Wyoming Medical Center for their extraordinary care and concern provided to Shawn and his family.
A celebration of life will take place on August 10 at the Bighorn Baptist Church at 10:00 AM. Memorials may be made in Shawn’s memory to the Donor Alliance for Organ and Tissue Donation at 200 Spruce Street, Suite 200, Denver, CO 80230
